Cpdm is a new model for development of complex products, built on Christer Sandahl's life experience from mechanics, electronics and software development.
Product development has a long history, going back to Egyptian pyramids and Roman aqueducts. Pantheon in Rome from around year 140 is still in pristine condition. These constructions was for its time complex and on the edge of technology, but nowadays could be finished by an ordinary mid-sized building company.
Complexity today has moved towards immaterial sectors such as operating systems for computers and searching engines over internet. For these types of constructions, large companies with high educated staff is a needed prerequisite.
To master complexity has always been the product development challenge, and there is no shortage of famous failures, like crashes of space rockets and computer systems.
Authorities and laws of nature sometimes force high quality development, but in general development methods are poor and fragmented, implying these bad characters to get forwarded to the developed products. Think yourself, how often you get angry with products not fulfilling what they was promised to do.
It is a mystery, that highly educated engineers and their managers can be so skilled in engineering but so poor in organising development. There is an obvious need of improving development methodology and modelling, and my contribution is the Cpdm, the Complex Product Development Model.
Cpdm is based on my full life of experience, from small local to world wide companies, being developer of mechanics, electronics and software. The book on Cpdm is both holistic and coherent, as well as giving countless of detailed examples how to apply the model on all kind of technology development. Cpdm is a must when to mastering complex development.
