We loved visiting the museum! The displays were fascinating and staff were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. As a vegetarian, I was even offered gelatin-free salty licorice at the tasting bar and was very happy to be able to participate in the taste challenge! I would highly recommend dropping by the museum when in Malmö.
Trigger warning: I advise _not_ to look at the video and pictures if you are sensitive to animal cruelty.nnSee, smell, taste. Most of this museum describes the history of disgusting foods and practices. Some of them stem from necessity rather than misplaced culinary inventions. The museum in itself is an exhibition in one room with a line to follow on the ground. You'll jump from continent to continent, accumulating weird food practices one after the other each with their history summarized in two short paragraphs.nnThe visit contains a few smell tests. Don't worry about vomiting, you'll have a barf bag during your trip and they’re quite mild. You'll then experience a taste test and a spicy sauce test akin to Hot Ones where you’ll be trying six sauces of increasing strength. If you complete it, you can spin the wheel for a prize.nnThe staff is adorable and helpful, it's been a pleasure to go through this experience.
A phenomenal experience. The museum is small. Super well marked for movement. Information and exhibits are very well lit and positioned. The staff is super well educated. The most interesting thing is at the end where you can try a variety of food. We laughed a lot and it was a lot of fun. I still have a bad smell in my nose, but given the good experience, I'll ignore it. I recommend it
Me and my 7 year old enjoyed this much more than I thought we would! Entertaining descriptions and things that give you food for thought pun intended alongside friendly, entertaining staff and tasty treats make this a great family day out. Just don’t plan to have lunch there…
Very interesting BUT IT'S A LOT OF READING FUN AND INTERESTING FACTS/STORIES. If you want to enjoy it, go with the mentality of learning about weird and gross food and trying some wacky flavours. And almost definitely don't take kids unless you're okay with skipping the majority of the museum to the end to try the food. But i enjoyed it very much and learnt tons.
