Strandverket Art Gallery is housed in the old fortification known as Södra Strandverket, by the south entrance to the Marstrand harbour. The building is an attraction in itself, with a history dating back to the mid-1800s. In conjunction with the exhibitions, the building offers visitors an exciting experience. Strandverket aims to create meetings within arts; an attractive tension between old and new, different genres and, most importantly, visitors to Strandverket. Strandverket has started to build up a permanent collection of sculptures. In the court yard inside the walls, you can find works by Sean Henry, Bernar Venet, Pål Svensson, Eva Hild and Maria Miesenberger. Outside the building, there are sculptures by Frank Stella and Enrique Martínez Celaya, as well as Tony Craggs’ six-metre tall Point of view down by the water. Strandverket Art Gallery is open from early spring to late autumn and four to six weeks during December and January. Strandverket also houses a shop and a licensed café.
