Pilot Hill and Lookout PointnOutside Käringön stands the Mäseskär Lighthouse. The lighthouse was manned from 1865 to 1996.nnThe tall, red and white lighthouse is a crinoline lighthouse, designed by the engineer Nils Gustaf von Heidenstam.nnIn 1978, it was replaced by a more modern lighthouse.nnHere to the west is the island's last pilot lookout. Käringön was a pilot station for more than 250 years but was closed in 1960.nnOn Vedholmen in the northwest is the old lookout of the Sea Rescue Service.nnBefore the age of telecommunications, it was used to keep watch in bad weather.nnMarstrand and the Carlsten Fortress can be seen on a clear day by looking south. Skagen, Denmark, is 35 nautical miles 220°.nnTurn around and look across the island. You'll see that most of the houses on Käringön are built with their gables facing east-west.nnKäringön Heritage Association in collaboration with Bohuslän Museum.nnInformation panel translation from Swedish by DeepL
