This page is directed towards our students and alumni of the Peace and Devlopment Studies at Linnaeus University in Sweden, as well as towards anyone else interested in issues concerning peace, conflict, security, human rights, and development.
Linnaeus University offers a broad education in peace and development, including I, II, III and advanced levels. We also offer an undergraduate programme (180 credits)and a one year master programme (60 credits).
In our classes and seminars, we analyze strategies of sustainable development, poverty reduction and aid, methods for conflict prevention and transformation, peacebuilding and reconciliation in post-conflict societies, human security, human rights and gender issues. We also analyze strategies for communication to facilitate development for social change and look into the impact of the intervention by international actors and their contributions to eliminate structural violence and help create positive, sustainable peace.
Peace and Development Studies call for problem-oriented work which includes field studies and problem solving exercises and roleplays. Interactive teaching methods integrate current events and global trends.Our practice-oriented approach to learning which is also reflected in our teachers. Most members of our staff speak at least two foreign languages and have lived and worked extensively in developing countries in developing countries, a fact which adds to the discipline’s international character and greatly contributes to our practice-oriented teaching. Due to the international character of the issues studied in our discipline, all classes in Peace and Development Studies are taught in English. We thereby attract a considerable number of students from other countries, which in turn guarantees a multicultural classroom and greatly enriches the education we offer.
