Instead of Plato's Cave, this place gives the impression of Plato's Rave. Very colorful and almost like an injection of acid straight into the optical nerve—with all that entails. The moment you step off the train, you're greeted not by shadows on the wall, but by a full-blown sensory explosion: bold colors, jagged patterns, and lighting that makes you feel like you've wandered into an underground nightclub curated by a philosophically inclined DJ.nnThis subway station is quite a trip, a hallucinogenic detour beneath the city that momentarily lifts you out of the mundane. Sadly, though, most of the themes on the surface lean heavily into the world of sport rather than venturing into the more thought-provoking territories of art, history, or science. That is a pity...
This is one of the beautifully designed subway stations of Stockholm. In this case it is like an underground sky with a rainbow on the roof of the station. It is definitely with a visit and if you like photography it is a stunning subject for photos.
I saw a rainbow, it was nice
A giant rainbow on a sky blue background in Stadion could summon a wide range of ideas. My first thought was that it could represent the LGBT pride flag. Perhaps it was an attempt at projecting Stockholm is a gay friendly capital? After doing a bit of research, I found the colours didn't tally. The flag has six strips to the 10 found in this station and purple had not been included. Instead two shades of each colour are used in this wall design. By coincidence Östermalms IP stadium - a stones throw from this stop - hosts the yearly Pride festival.nnIf anything the designers Enno Hallek and Åke Pallarp aimed to extinguish the negative misconceptions about the stations. They were coined as being something along the lines of dark and woeful places in the seventies. By painting a blue sky and vivid rainbow, onlookers would be reminded that the roof of the world is not far away.nnA local obstructed my lens with some impertinent body language. He then proceeded to spiel off some facts about the station, which I was only too grateful for. There are plaques on the walls resembling giant bottle tops with references to local football teams. The stadium close by had relevance!
One of the most photographed metro stations in Stockholm, and for good reason! It's visually stunning and quite interesting to explore. Definitely worth a visit.
