Story

Stiftelsen Österbybruks Herrgård hette vid stiftandet år 1969, Bruno Liljefors Stiftelse, efter den svenske naturkonstnären som var verksam på Herrgården under mellankrigstiden.

När Fagersta koncernen, som tidigare var ägare hade planer på att sälja några av herrgårdsbyggnaderna gick ett antal kulturintresserade personer vid den tiden samman för att genom den nybildade stiftelsen föra förhandlingar om överlåtande, så att det kulturhistoriska området kunde förvaltas av icke-kommersiella krafter och få bevaras.

Stiftelsen Österbybruks Herrgård is a foundation that endeavuors to preserve the cultural heritage of the historical iron production and its socio-cultural dimensions, surrounding the Estate in the Swedish locality of Österbybruk, in Uppsala county. The estate and all its surroundings have a profound importance for our understanding of the metal production during the early modern era in Swedish industrial history.
The premises has several museum, including and 1600-century smithy with a still functioning forge! The foundation also oversees most of the socioeconomic buildings at place, for example the 1700-century workers’ accommodations that were well build and generously offered to the workers and their families by the lord of the Estate.

We also promote art expeditions, especially the exhibition concerning the Swedish impressionist painter Bruno Liljefors, who lived at the mansion, during 1917 and 1932.
