Small peninsula, but there is a nice walking path taking you all the way around. The hike is pretty easy and short and there are some magnificent views of the lake itself as well as of ships and other towns in the far. Can be very rough and windy so be sure to bring a warm jacket or a thick sweater. Hiking shoes are not necessary.

After a highly interesting guided tour of the magnificent Karlsborg Fortress initially Vanäs Fortress we hiked further out onto the headland.nThe target was Vanäs lighthouse, which had a significant function, at the mouth of the Göta channel, since 1864. The current lighthouse was built in 1892 and is today Q-marked.nThe walking path there is very scenic and lined with many, somewhat unusual, plants.nThe lake view is fantastic. On the other side of Lake Vättern, Heidenstam's Övralid, Vadstena's tower spiers and Omberg can be seen.nTherefore, you should not miss this slightly magical place after taking part in Karlborg's, for all of Sweden, important history.nMany activities are still carried out in this Europe's longest continuous building, which is why photography is prohibited there.
