Lake Vättern is a paradise in the centre of Sweden. The second largest lake in the country plays host to several medium size population centres including, situated around halfway up its eastern shores; Motala. Motala has a population of 43,717 inhabitants as of 2024, but this number swells significantly upon the annual date of the Vätternrundan. Consisting of a 315km lap of the lake, the Vätternrundan is the largest road cycling sportive in the world by participant numbers, attracting participants from all over the world.nnWhen the ride is in town, Motala is gripped by cycling fever, as bikes adorn the streets and alleyways of the usually quiet regional town. Residents open their homes to visiting riders, offering lodging for low rates in conjunction with the event organisation. This ensures the event can run on an annual basis as it has since 1966.
A beautiful, natural long sandy beach with gradual access to the water, protected by the surrounding forests of the bay. In winter, a wonderfully peaceful place for long walks around the frozen bay, where you can also skate. When the ice melts, it's a wonderful experience.nIn summer, a very popular place to swim, watch the sunset while dining at a local restaurant. The beach is surrounded by a belt of forest which provides shade on hot summer days. Water rides available for hire, toilets, hostel, wheelchair access to the beach and water from the bathing pier. Convenient paid parking, fast food restaurants in close proximity to parking lots.nI recommend a visit at any time of the year.nIt's a magical piece of nature almost in the center of town.
Amazing beach safe for swimming it is not deep
Was better last year but due to rain the water level is so high the beach is almost gone still a nice spot tho. Water in Vättern is usually cold here is shallow water. Good for kids.
This is a good place considering its the biggest non- sea beach
