My visit to Vaxholm Fortress was absolutely fantastic this place exudes incredible history and the views of the Stockholm archipelago are simply breathtaking walking along the fortress walls I felt like I had stepped back in time the museum within the fortress is extremely interesting and the exhibits perfectly capture Sweden's military past the staff were very friendly and helpful readily answering all my questions the boat trip to the island where the fortress is located was an added bonus I highly recommend Vaxholm Fortress to all lovers of history and beautiful landscapes.nnlisten, during the off-season, like between September and the end of April, if you've got an SL ticket for 30 days or more, you can ride the Waxholmsbolaget ferries for free. So, when you're planning a trip, you don't have to worry about the ticket prices for those ferries, you get it?nDude, you know, there's this whole thing with a semaphore at Vaxholm. You gotta turn it towards the sea so the ferry picks you up. And if it gets dark, you gotta switch on a light there, or nobody's gonna see you and you'll be stuck there for good. It's kinda old-school vibes, but it works!
Go there by boat and inside it has gallery, museum, cafe and restaurant. Quite good to see the history of navy.
We were very excited to visit this fortress however it was big disappoinment for us. It is changed into a hotel it can be nice to stay over night at this place - but nothing else to do and except for the tower, where there is a nice view, there is nothing to see. Admission is free. Only the ferry is paid. Definitely not worth a visit for me. Very small town to walk through, you're going to be done in less than 10 - 15 min. If you really plan to visit this place go by public transport - from Stockholm you are here by bus in 34-45min and it costs a few crowns. Cruises are very expensive to get here and the result is not really worth it. Sweden has beautiful nature and it is worth paying for a cruise or other sightseeing tour of smaller islands and surroundings. We would rather skip this island next time
Nice place to visit at Vaxholm. You have to go by boat to the castle from Vaxholm ferry terminal. Ferry from Stockholm stops at Castle after Vaxholm, better to get down there instead of Vaxholm and comeback to Vaxholm in the small boat for cost saving.nMuseum is closed on the weekends!
Great historical and well maintained castle.nYou have to take a ferry to reach the castle, cost 90kr.nAfter reaching Castle it's an amazing place.nThere are amazing cannons and launchers, some looks from the recent past.nGood time to go in the early afternoon and morning, as in late afternoon, coffee shops are closed.nCastle has some hidden doors which are accessible to the Castle staff, they might allow you incase you request them.nAlso around the castle it's a great walk.
