Andre Westra was born on July 21st 1962 in Oentsjerk, a small village in Friesland (The Netherlands). He grew up in a painters family who started 'Westra Schilderwerken' in the year 1880. Andre worked 33 years in the artisanal family business and was a known painter who was very social and precise in his work.
Andre began to draw animals in 2008. He had around 15 lessons in a period of two years and what started in a try ended up in a serious hobby.
He and his wife Ellen decided to emigrate to Norway in April 2013. They have three children: Ruud (26), Niek (23) and Ilse Jose (19). Beside drawing animals, Andre likes to go out for fishing, walking in the beautiful Norwegian nature and spotting birds.
Andre takes his examples out of magazines, Google or personal pictures. It can be anything, from elephants to small birds. He also does assignments, but only when there is a good clear picture of the animal, without a time limit.
