Achieving Sustainability in Aquaculture

Aquaculture should provide a global sustainable source of animal protein in an effort to supply an increasingly growing demand. Aquaculture is being lately criticized as a risky and non-sustainable activity, especially in open waters as it may generate pollution by the residues of the cage systems. Aquaculture needs more efficiency and control, less pollution and a sustainable model. We at Storvik Biofloc are inspired in the more developed, efficient and organized agriculture clusters that will have sustainable answers to these problems.

The Biofloc technology may help the aquaculture industry to achieve some of the advantages and worldwide competitiveness the main sustainable agriculture clusters. Some aquatic organisms like tilapias and shrimps can be commercially farmed in a fully sustainable, zero-effluent and controllable aquaculture systems, very similar to poultry, using our Biofloc Technology. We have experimented in research and put our knowledge under test and several parameter optimizations in several commercial structures in Brazil, Mexico and soon in Kurdistan. This relatively new and unique system are being documenting in a Manual with all our achievements and recommendations since 2007, so that this knowledge is constantly updated and can be transmitted in a clear and comprehensive way through several commercial sites worldwide.

We specialize in the efficient production of Tilapia in Bioflocs, but we are also developing expertise in Vannamei shrimps, Asian Seabass (Barramundi) as well as the Paiche/Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas).
