See www.aurora-addicts.com for more details of our tours, blog, photos and aurora flavoured goodies.

What type of Aurora Addict are you?

THE NON SPECIFIC APPRECIATOR
Do you moon over photographs of the Aurora Borealis? Do certain images of the lights at the ends of our globe give you goosebumps? Do you find yourself saying "wow that's amazing" at an inordinate amount when looking at Aurora photographs? Do glimpses of the lights raise your heart rate?

THE RESIDENT ADDICT
Do you "lose" time stood outside with your neck bent in an upward position. Could this be because you live under the Auroral Oval? Do you find yourself monitoring local cloud cover and planning late night excursions with your camera equipment? Do you have long and silent dates with the Tricky Lady and are you used to regularly waiting but being stood up? Is that the thrill of the chase for you? Does the waiting and expectation make the displays seem all the more worthwhile?

THE DEVOTED NON-RESIDENT ADDICT
Do you live south of the Auroral Oval and have holidayed north to see the lights and now need more? Are you insatiable? Do you spend all your time planning your next trip to go chasing? Do you monitor flight prices to your Northern destination of choice and wait for that amzingly cheap offer that will take you exactly where you need to be?

THE BUCKET LISTER
Have you wanted to see the Aurora Borealis since time began and have decided to make this THE year it happens? Are you about to realise your dream? Do you want help planning your trip? Do you need reviews from the people who live, work and regularly visit the lights? Do you have children and wonder if it wil be the holiday for them? How will you occupy them and will they be interested enough to enjoy the trip too? How do you plan for something as unpredictable, sought after and elusive as the Tricky Lady? If other people can do why can't you?

THE PIPE DREAMER
Have you always had seeing the Polar lights on your bucket list but don't think you will ever be able to make it a reality? For now are you happy with just immersing yourself in anything and everything aurora related? Do you feed your need for seeing them with photographs, video and star gazing? Do you have a giant telescope that keeps your addiction for the lights under control. Are you an avid sky watcher?

THE ARTISTE
Are you an artist or a photographer? Do you paint the lights? Are you looking for inspiration? Professional or hobbyist the passion for your creations is the same. Would you like to share your work with other people, maybe exchange tips on location, camera settings, technique, method and composition? Maybe you just like to share your art with others and take pleasure from other people's appreciation? Please check out our Facebook page.

If any of the above apply to you then you are a prime candidate to suffer from Auroral Addiction.

Once it takes a hold this condition can leave you utterly debilitated - in particular during the summer months. You may find yourself slipping into a deep depression by the time the midnight sun arrives. This will start to tail off as September approaches. You are no doubt constantly broke as you book plane tickets, hire cars and buy camera equipment. Without a doubt you will find your time becomes limited as you take a geeky interest in the surface of the sun, monitor the Kp Index and discuss winds of the solar variety. Incidentally people who regularly chase the lights are 98% more likely to find themselves with a rational loathing of cloud.

The condition is progressive. You may start by only showing a mild interest in "those pretty pictures of those funny lights" that grace other people's lives. Once that spark of excitement from the lights is there though it can easily spiral out of control.

To date there has yet to be anyone found suffering who has ever made a full recovery. Once you become an addict there is no known cure. There is no magic solution to stop the yearning and regardless of how much you convince yourself otherwise you will never ever see the display that will end all displays. You will not ever think "right thats good I don't need to see those lights again now.” You will always hold out for just one more.

Fighting the disease is futile although some have managed to ignore the symptoms for a few years. Embrace it for what it is and join with other fellow sufferers. Together we can support and help each other through the tough times, rejoice together when the sun does its Flare Fandango and share everything that the 2 Auroras of our planet give us.

Remember you are not alone. Lets just take this one flare at a time.

So that’s you but who are we?

We are a family of 6 Aurora Addicts who live for the Aurora Borealis, nature’s most sensational light show and are currently on our most illuminating adventure yet – a Northern Lights pilgrimage across Lapland. We are Aurora (11), Oceanna (9), Lyrica (4), Caspian (2) and parents Chris and Becki.

Over the last 5 years we have followed the Northern Lights in Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway. The current increase in solar activity (solar maximum) has forced us to take or holiday habits one step beyond! In December 2013 we travelled from our UK home to inside the Arctic Circle, experiencing where we spent 5 months exploring Lapland and chasing the Aurora Borealis with our 7m long motorhome CLONA. Life with 6 living in extreme temperatures and such a small space was certainly a challenge but all part of the amazing adventure. We then continued our journey south into the rest of Europe where we spent the rest of the Summer. After such an amazing experience we were definitely not ready to leave our northern skies and return home. We decided to move to Norway to spend ‘just one more season’ chasing our lights. So here we are and here are our favourite shots taken over the last year.
