The Conductor's Week (in Norwegian "Dirigentuka") is Norway's largest and most popular conducting course. We host over 100 participants and a teaching staff of 15-20 acclaimed conductors. The course is available to international participants.
The course is aimed at a broad spectrum of conductors - both brass band, wind band and orchestra conductors. The participants range from beginners, through intermediate to experienced professionals. There are lectures, master classes, group- and individual lessons, technique classes and more... We start every morning at 09:00 and continue all day until 21:00. The Conductor's Week is held in the idyllic "Bjergsted Cultural Park" - the heart of Stavanger's cultural district, just a short walk from downtown.
The Conductor's Week is a result of a collaboration between the Norwegian Band Federation and the University of Stavanger's Department of music and dance.
The Department of music and dance of Stavanger University offers bachelor's and master's degrees in conducting as well as a variety of extension studies, among them UiS' "Digital conducting studies" - an innovative distance learning course.
Morten Wensberg, who is the head of conducting studies at the University of Stavanger is the founder and host of the Conductor's Week in Stavanger.
