Frequently Asked Questions
-Do I need a piano at home if I take piano lessons?
Definitely. You are learning a skill that require regular practice in order to make progress. For beginners, a electric keyboard with weighted keys will be fine, but an acoustic piano is always recommended.
-I don't know anything about music. Do I need to help my child practice?
Yes, it is recommended that parents take part in the learning process. You do not have to have any knowledge of music or piano, but it is important that you participate with your child during practice, assist with scheduling practicing time and provide them with a quiet and distraction-free environment for the practice sessions.
-How much should the student practice?
Depending on the level and age of the student--from 15 minutes to 2 hours a day. The quality of the practice session (focused, using effective practice strategies) is more important than the length. For the best learning process, please include practice as part of the daily schedule of the student.
-What is the appropriate age to start piano?
You can start piano at any age - students from the age of 3 to 70s, and they all enjoy learning the piano and appreciate music at different level and pace. As for children, it will be helpful to schedule an interview with the prospective teacher to decide if the child is ready for piano/music lessons.
