Biography

Mandal Kantori is a mixed choir with about 65 members, founded on Sept. 1st 1988 by Tormod Lindland, conductor and cantor in the city's church. Most members of the choir live in Mandal, but also the wider region is represented by a number of singers. Mandal Kantori has two focus areas: To be a proactive participant with music in the local church, and to participate in larger projects, either on its own or in cooperation with other choirs and orchestras in the region or on national level. Examples are classical masterpieces, often in the church music genre and together with Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, the most important symphony orchestra in the South Coast region of Norway, and traditional jazz and gospel music, usually performed together with New Orleans style jazz orchestras on Norwegian national level.
