Historie

Egge is a former municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality is part of the present-day municipality of Steinkjer, including the areas north of the town of Steinkjer, south of the lake Snåsavatnet, west of the lake Fossemvatnet, and east of Beitstad. The main church for the municipality was Egge Church, just north of the town of Steinkjer.HistoryThe parish of Egge was established as a municipality on 1 January 1869 when it was separated from the municipality of Stod (see formannskapsdistrikt). Initially, Egge had a population of 941. In 1948 a small part of Egge (population: 70) was transferred to the neighboring town of Steinkjer. On 1 January 1964, a major municipal merger took place: the municipalities of Egge, Beitstad, Kvam, Ogndal, Sparbu, and Stod were merged with the town of Steinkjer to form a new, larger municipality of Steinkjer. Before the merger, Egge had a population of 3,476.During the period from 2005-2010 Egge also had one of the best youth squads in the entire country. Many of the players continued their football careers in bigger clubs, some in Norway and others in other European teams. A lot of people living in Egge meant that if this team had continued playing together they might have won the norwegian league for seniors, Tippeligaen, in the future.
