My kids have attended ISS for almost three years. We are so happy with the supportive, engaging learning environment and our kids have thrived during their time here. The teachers and staff work hard to understand the needs of each student and they make sure to meet those needs in a way that allows the students to be uniquely themselves while they learn and grow. There is a huge variety of learning opportunities and after school activities for any interest. My kids are very active in the school musicals, after school design technology, and board game club. We have lived all over the world and my kids have attended a variety of international schools. ISS is our favorite. It’s a wonderful school and I highly recommend it for any family that is planning a move to Stavanger.
I have 4 children at ISS. We moved to Stavanger from Alaska at Christmas time a year ago. The school has been great. I was impressed first off on how well the kids were welcomed into school. The teachers have routines in place to make children have an easy transition and get to know their classmates quickly. We have loved our kids’ teachers. It’s been really nice to have extra activities available after school. My kids have done art club, board game club, volleyball, track and wood working in the design technology club after school. I also appreciate that starting in grade 5 kids are required to learn an instrument. Instruments are lent out by the school. They do field trips. My son in 6th grade will do a week long sailing camp and even my preschooler has ridden the city bus downtown. There’s not been a huge emphasis on lots of homework, which I appreciate so that we can have time together as a family in the evening. They get good recess time and time outdoors. Norwegians seem to have an emphasis on having a balanced life, not just academics. I appreciate this because there is more foreign language, music, and art then we are used to. I gave the school 4 stars because I always feel like there’s room for improvement. Nothing is ever perfect. I do wish that my preschooler who is now 5 would be taught her letters/sounds and the beginning reading skills, but I think that’s the norm for Norway. Sometimes, I think my kids could be more academically challenged in some areas, but in other areas I feel like they exceed my expectations. Most of the teachers we have had have been great, but just like at any school some are better than others. All in all it’s been great. It’s been a huge blessing for us to have all our kids on the same campus, going to school at the same time and in English. We are glad we choose ISS and enjoy the more balanced life it gives us.
We’ve been at ISS for almost 2 years. They have a great buddy system in place which helped my kids settle into school quickly primary school and middle school. The middle school principal and teachers were really understanding on how difficult a move can be!! The teachers go above and beyond with after school activities and clubs sports, musicals, games clubs, student council, student exchange, etc. My children are now in middle school and high school and are thriving.
International School of Stavanger has given me peace of mind knowing my children are in a challenging, caring and safe learning environment. Students are actively engage in the creative and innovative learning process. Staff communicate well and often with parents. Teachers are polite, friendly and extremely supportive. ISS is a dream school, which my children are very happy to attend! As a parent, what more can I ask for? ;-
This school cares about students' money. It's a business, and nothing more. There are a few very good teachers who genuinely care about the students, but overall, it is a business and the bottom line is profit. If your kid is bullied they won't do much about it. It was an awful experience for our kid and even for us as parents. Our kid is still traumatised by the experience. One of the worst decisions we've ever made.
As a student who went there for three years I highly recommend it
Good overall experience. We like the fact that there are diverse activities our daughter gets exposed to, including outdoors trips.
I’ve experienced injustice and people judging me based on my colour. Teachers have called me racial slurs and don’t care when I bring it up. Don’t recomend this school at all.
Dårlig læresystem
Fun time there but could have been better. I went to this school for a while.
