Background
Liberia is experiencing a rapid development in its social and economic drive since the inception of the government in 2005. A lot of resources has been committed to improving the overall development needs of the country. The 2008 census in Liberia shows that 72% of the 4.2 million people in Liberia are young people below the ages of 35. The fourteen years of civil conflict had a devastating toll on the youth population of the country. Young people were turn into killing machine, drug user and force prostitution during the conflict. A huge portion of the youthful population were left lacking behind in almost every aspect of their lives, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds of persuasion. Young people are available gang to be hired, some have resulted to crimes and illegal activities while other have lost direction and hope for life. This has increase young girls been single mothers. International Women Giving Helping Hands has developed this organization aim at creating the space for underprivileged Children/ Single Mothers to reverse the damage done by the civil conflict.
Mostly, International Women Giving Helping Hands believes every Child/Single Mothers deserves a future. In Liberia and Africa at large, we give Children/Single Mothers a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We do whatever it takes for children/Single Mothers every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share. Today Single mothers in Africa is the result of early pregnancies. In general woman who started bearing children at earlier age are often stigmatized and therefore men are reluctant to get married to them. In addition 76% of adult population is not in stable family unions while 32% of the kids grow up only with their mothers. International Women Giving Helping Hands (I.W.G.H.H ) is a women organization that focuses on improving living conditions of Children/Single Mothers. The Organization is still at it early stage and is run by group of African Women Base in Norway.
