The Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience (KISN) is a Kavli Foundation Institute since 2007, a Centre of Excellence (CoE) since 2002, and a department under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The research centre was established in 1996.
In 2007, the Norwegian-American physicist, businessman, billionaire and philanthropist Fred Kavli selected the research centre as one of 15 prestigious Kavli Institutes. The is the only Norwegian institute to be honoured to date.
Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience aims to understand the emergence of higher brain functions, in any system, in any species.
