Kongsberg International School is a non-profit foundation established in 2002 by Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS, Kongsberg Automotive ASA and Kongsberg Nærings- og Handelskammer (Chamber of Commerce and Industry).
KIS is committed to providing a quality educational experience for all of its community. We do this through the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and in collaboration with the local High School, the Diploma Programme, of the International Baccalaureate Organization. All three programmes:
- Have a strong international dimension
- Draw on content from the educational cultures of the world
- Require study across a broad range of subjects
- Include both individual subjects and transdisciplinary areas
- Give special emphasis to learning languages
- Focus on developing the skills of learning
- Provide opportunities for individual and collaborative planning and research
- Encourages students to become responsible members of their community
Alongside this, all three programmes aim to develop a set of values throughout the IB community called the Learner Profile.
Our Mission
Kongsberg International School is committed to developing reflective, creative, and divergent thinkers in the service of an evolving global society.
We aspire to excellence, recognizing all stakeholders as lifelong learners. We aim to maximize the potential of each individual, fostering holistic development and leadership. We value the synergy of collaboration as innovators, communicators and conceptual thinkers. We commit to putting learning into responsible action.
KIS is an IB World School, and our mission is in alignment with the International Baccalaureate Organization mission statement:
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
