When the child is laughing, is laughing all the World.
Hi!
My name is Katarzyna Wrońska (Kasia). I was born on November 10th, 1979 in Poland. Photography has been my passion since 1996 when I decided to study photography. In 1997, I ended up at the atelier of an eminent Polish photographer, specialist in studio lighting as well as medium and large format photography, and author of numerous influential books on photography and lighting, Leonard Karpiłowski. I was his apprentice until 1999. At that time I shot with a Zenit 12 XP and a medium-format Start 66.
In 1998, I debuted at a joined exhibition at the Łowicka Culture Centre in Warsaw with my studio series of flower portraits.
In 2008, I purchased my first Nikon DSLR and began to seek my own place in the field.
I completed a course at Izabela Jaroszewska’s European Academy of Photography in Warsaw where I studied under Włodzimierz Krzemiński, Izabela Jaroszewska, Barbara Sokołowska, Paweł Duma and others. I then continued my education at the College of Photography by the Association of Polish Photography Artists (ZPAF) in Warsaw where I studied under Stanisław Fitak, Andrzej Zygmuntowicz, Jowita Mormul, Jolanta Rycerska, Paweł Żak, Janusz Lirski and Hanna Musiał.
The turning point in my work came in 2013 when I set off on a number of hitchhiking trips across Europe. These peregrinations served as inspiration to my work and helped me open up to new experiences. What followed were several sessions with literary heroines as the recurring theme. I sought to offer my own interpretation of tragic characters whose love drove them to commit crimes and ultimately fall victims to their own deeds. I experimented with foil and fake blood. Photographs from two of the sessions as part of the project entered the finals of a number of photographic competitions.
In 2014, I had the pleasure of working with the outstanding deigner, Janusz Kaniewski. Our collaboration led to a session aimed at showing the artist’s creative space, and then to an exhibition where I presented my first photographic installation called No designer has yet been photographed with chickens…. The exhibition took place in Krakow in January 2014. Pictures which were the fruit of my cooperation with Janusz Kaniewski were also qualified for the final of a photo contest.
In 2015, my series of photographs portraying Warsaw (7 photos) was mounted at ZPAF. The pictures were shown at the Old ZPAF Gallery as part of a post-workshop exhibition entitled Many Faces of Warsaw.
In 2014 and 2015, I presented my second photographic installation called Memory Perpetuated in several places. Originally, I made it with archival private photos, and then I began cooperation with the Archive of Oral History by the House of Meetings with History and the Karta Centre. The cooperation resulted in the installation of Warsaw’s Memory Perpetuated which presented photographs of Warsaw between 1910 and 1960.
In August 2015, I moved to Norway where I now run a photo services company. The services I offer to businesses involve photographing spaces such as pubs, restaurants, retail and service spaces, hotels, ferries, apartments for sale or rent, etc. I cooperate with a Warsaw design studio, Arch-Elle.com.pl. Currently, I specialize in creating virtual tours which I see as the future in terms of reaching out to potential customers.
