Historie

The Lofotr Viking Museum is a historical museum based on a reconstruction and archaeological excavation of a Viking chieftain's village on the island of Vestvågøya in the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the small village of Borg, near Bøstad, in the municipality of Vestvågøy.



"Travel more than 1000 years back in time. Visit the site and the reconstruction of the worlds largest longhouse from the Viking age. Exhibition halls with archaeological objects, a full size reconstruction of the worlds largest longhouse. In summer, extra activities such as sail the Vikingship, archery and other. All year: Viking style meals, Viking feasts and more. Opening hours vary during the year."

Personally I found this museum underwhelming. Mainly because the audio guide is weak, there isn’t much direction for which order to view the exhibits, and the guided tour guide was very dull. In fact I found the cod liver guide I had at another museum much more exciting than this guide that was talking about Vikings! Some good activities for families such as archery, axe throwing, and boating that are included in your ticket price.
Beautiful place and a great experience. You start off with an audio tour indoors and then you venture outside to see the reconstructed hall. A 15 minute walk would bring you to the lake where you could take a boat ride Viking style. Also, as a side note - we wife pointed it out were lucky enough to have the prettiest woman in Norway handling the boat for us
Don’t miss the viking boat ride; may be for longer but good to experience it. Staffs in the place is super friendly and encourage you to ask questions and make the museum experience more interactive. Its big place, prepare to walk : ! Archery & Axe throw is bonus !
Holy smokes! Do not miss this Norwegian Viking museum. It is so well done. The guides are fantastic and so knowledgeable about Norse history. The interactive long house allows you to touch and feel all artifact replicas. Please note: ground is a bit bumpy and you may trip if you don’t watch your step. Plan on 90 minutes here. Don’t miss the short Hollywood style movie in the museum. Do the longhouse tour first before watching the movie so you can tie your knowledge in. Incredible gift store. Take time to walk around the expansive property.
A great experience. The guide in the reconstructed long house was an archeologist from Greece. She gave a great talk! We loved this place, lots to see and do. Friendly helpful staff too. Beautiful setting and lovely views. The long house is really interesting, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend the attraction. It was a great outdoor museum with a few of activities for kids and adults. Love the long boat trip. The indoor museum which is in the long house was a nice experience too. Complete with viking dining experience, photo set, and much more. Gift shop is good, the restaurant also good. We went on the Viking festival week. It was fabulous. We are 26/28 and we loved every moment of it. This place is for both adults and children. We got to learn all about the history of vikings. As well as some axe throwing and even riding on a biking ship. 10/10 recommend. Dogs are allowed in the outside areas too. Plenty of space for campervan parking.

Beautiful museum. Viking history and exhibits that bring imagination to life. A Viking boat is included. We were there early in the season on a rainy day so unfortunately many of the activities were not staffed, which is the only reason I couldn’t give 5 stars.
