Myrdal station is a small place located in the mountain valley in western part of Norway on the Bergen-Oslo train line. It has train connection to Flåm.

Historie

Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world pass Myrdal station. But there is a very small percentage of them who spend more than a few minutes there and that is mostly because of lack of information about possibilities in Myrdal.

Myrdal station is situated in the norwegian mountains at the edge of mountain plateau called Hardangervidda at the altitude of 866m. above the sea level. That makes the place very exposed to the nature and snow usually remains in Myrdal until the month of May. However during the short and intense summer offers Myrdal unique opportunity to experience the real arctic mountain nature in many different ways.

There are endless possibilities for hiking around Myrdal for both experienced and occasional hikers and one can see many waterfalls, rare plants and animals during the trip. The best time for hiking is july - september when the weather is good and snow is usually retreating. However there can be snow in the higher altitudes above Myrdal all wear round and the peaks around are about 1500m high.

Another popular way to enjoy nature around Myrdal is by bicycle. Place is situated on the popular Rallarvegen which is old road over the mountains build over 100 years ago. Road is more that 80 km long and starts from Haugastøl and finishes at Flåm. It is usually open from the end of july to october. The last section of the road which starts at Myrdal and finishes in Flåm is 21 km long and is opened from the end of may until end of september. It is beautiful downhill ride through the Flåm valley which takes about 1-1,5 hours. Myrdal station is a place where you can rent the bikes and deliver them back in Flåm and you will get all necessary information about the trip.
