Historie

(For information in English, see below):

ENGLISH:
The Norwegian Maritime Museum (NMM) is a national museum with the responsibility to collect, research, and teach our Norwegian maritime cultural heritage. The museum has a wide range of interesting indoor and outdoor exhibits placed in a unique maritime environment.

The Norwegian Maritime Museum was founded in 1914 under the name "Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum". The museum changed its name to NMM in 2010 and has since 2015 been a part of the Norsk Folkemuseum foundation which includes the Bogstad Manor, the Bygdøy Royal Manor, Eidsvoll 1814, the Ibsen Museum, and Norsk Folkemuseum.

Today, the NMM is both a cultural history museum as well as an archaeological administrative museum with important responsibilities for cultural heritage, above and under water, in ten counties. The museum is actively involved in historic vessel preservation, and it is possible to book trips with some of our museum vessels, including the schooner Svanen, built in 1916, and the renaissance boat Vaaghals, a reconstruction of an archaeological find from Bjørvika in Oslo.

The museum is located alongside the Fram Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum at Bygdøynes on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo.

Great museum to visit. There are several expositions floors and a bar where you can buy both desserts and sandwiches and salads. Lots of visitors during summer. The surroundings are great, with an excellent view and two more museums around.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesJa
Very nice museum with many large and small artifacts. Excellent signage and details in both Norse and English. Museum accommodates large artifacts well and has ample space for folks to move around or stand in one place to take a detailed look. Spent about 2 hours there and could have stayed longer. Ideal spot for tourists of all ages. Got a nice talk from a curator on how they use archeological information to produce modern facsimiles.
Kind staff, but the museum In addition to interesting boats that you can walk in. It is otherwise uninteresting. polar museum is much better. Now u can see viking ship from closed museum due to reconsteuction. Free for Oslo passBesøkte stedetPå en helgedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesIkke sikker
A great museum on the naval and maritime History of Oslo. I loved the section on Viking ship recreation in lieu of the museum which is being renovated. The museum also has a beautiful gallery of maritime art and an extensive children section. I was slightly dissapointed by some of the interactive exhibits in the childrens section which were functioning properly. In particular a game on shipping planning which stopped functioning After 3 mins of use and was very likely overheating.
06.2024/ Visited around 13:30 a.m during the meal time in a working day so we were practically the only ones in the museum: well organized, many useful information and many model boats in the smallest detail. Inside is also a children's area with their specific model ships. We bought at the entrance a combo family ticket with which we accessed the all three museums, including Fram Museum and Kon-Tiki
Norway is a seafaring nation, and this museum pays tribute to its maritime history. The basement currently holds a small Viking boat and display while the Viking Boat Museum undergoes renovation, while the main floor is devoted to episodes from centuries of maritime history. It is the most generic of the trio of museums in this part of Bygdøy, but is helpful for setting the context. The café is also a good place to stop for a coffee break or light lunch.
If you have a time only for two museum, I advise you to skip this one and choose Kon-Tiki and Fram. Here you can see different variants of cruise liners and also there is a small part of a cabin. There is a big library on site and the whole floor for children with an entertaining exposition and game zone. Good cafeteria with sandwiches and snacks is available. There are also museum passes for 2 or 3 museums Fram, Kon-Tiki, Maritime Museum with a reduced price. ROAD: you can reach the museum by ferry or by bus.
This was an exciting visit, as a fanatic for anything water based I quite enjoyed this experience. You also can walk into the interior of an old shape, which was super thought provoking.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetid
Neat maritime museum. Lots of models for different ships throughout Norway's history. There's a kid area as well. Relatively small though. The coolest part was in the lowest level where they were actively building a wooden boat and you could watch. They hadn't made much progress when I came by, though :Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesIkke sikker
There are 3 museums right next to each other. They are all very well organized for even a young child. Simple to understand but very in-depth. I purchased the Oslo pass so I was able to take the bus down to the harbor and took the boat over. Well worth the time and the knowledge you gain will be amazing.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
