Northern Georoutes is a project designed to develop a high quality tourist offer and booking system for Geoparks and aspiring Geoparks in the North. Project name is GEO2NOR.

Historie

This project Geoparks and Geotourism to Northern Routes (GEO2NOR) is designed to develop a high quality tourist offer and booking system for Geoparks and areas in the NORA Region (http://www.nora.fo/en).

The areas involved in 2013 will be Iceland - Katla Geopark (http://www.katlageopark.is), Norway - Magma Geopark (http://www.magmageopark.com), Scotland - Shetland Amenity Trust (http://www.shetlandamenity.org/geopark-shetland) and Canada - Stonehammer Geopark (http://stonehammer.nbm-mnb.ca). The lead Partner is Magma Geopark with the Norwegian Centre of Expertise - NCE (http://www.fjordnorway.com/no/NCE-Tourism) ‐ the tourism department of Fjord Norway ‐ as a facilitator and tourism advisor. NCE tourism is the longest and most successful regional tourism cooperation in Western Norway. Other partners are the Icelandic ICT company Locatify (http://locatify.com) and associated partner and environmental expert Ilulissat Kangia (http://www.ilulissaticefjord.com).

The stakeholders involved will be small business (restaurants, etc.), local accommodation, and small size events‐tourist companies in the NORA Region as all will benefit from the project results.

The project will be divided into two phases. The first phase will be developed during 2013. A common promotional website will be set up between the Partners in order to market the chosen localities in the NORA Countries as tourist destinations and help them appeal to key audiences
around the World.

The project will develop, test and disseminate the GEO2NOR tourist strategy for the NORA Region via a project website, with an integrated booking system and SmartGuide app, under a common, easily
identifiable “GEO2NOR” brand.
