Historie

I would sincerely reconsider booking this accommodation, unless you are prepared to lose an enormous amount of money. I am an arctic guide, and had a 2 night stay booked for Feb 2024 for myself and my clients. 2 days before our visit, we told that at best, we would n to be able to get off the island until maybe 3 days later due to the weather. This did not at all work with our plans, and due to the uncertainty if we would even be able to get off after 3 days, we had to cancel. The only concession the island owners offered is to allow a rebooking within 12 months. We ate nearly $4k US - even though it was the island that was unable to fulfill their contract with us. I understand that these are the conditions set forth at the time of booking, however that does not make it right. It was not us who was cancelling, but the island was not able to honor our original booking. Yes, its weather dependent, and its remote and the arctic, I get all that - but to not offer even 50% refund is disgusting. As well as this I received a very insulting email from the owners, who kept saying it's in our terms... which I said I understood, but it still does not make it right. I have taken guests to the arctic for ten years, and every single weather related booking I have made has offered some type of refund if the weather messed things up. I strongly suggest you reconsider your stay on the island unless you have money to burn.
Elena and Litløy Fyr are absolutely fantastic. It’s really a special place. You can tell how much she loves this place because of all the beautiful custom touches. She’s made these beautiful curtains to keep the rooms warm, the cushions for the seating, and the wool covers for the guest room duvets. Everything is so thoughtful and eco-friendly. She grows her own mint for tea. And sprouts and other veggies too! She cooked us some traditional Norwegian meals, and offered some great stories about the island’s history. She used to be a tour guide, so she knows many facts about Norway and Sweden! If you come in winter, I definitely recommend borrowing some of Elena’s snowshoes! I could not have asked for a more perfect retreat for myself. I really want to come back and see what it’s like in summer.
Littöy is a unique island as far west in the archipelago of northern Norway as one can get. The views and scenery iare breathtaking. I spent thrree memorable weeks as volonteer 2013 and built a store for firewood and also started the reconstruction of the boat house naust together with Nicholas Jallan. In the free time we fished and could contribute to the meals with cod, mackerel, coalfish and crabs. It is pleasing to read about the progress of the constructions at the island. I am full of respect for Elenas persistant drive to develop Littelöya as a more and more attractive place to visit.
This is an incredible place - if you want somewhere to get relaxation and to be in touch with nature in a very real way then you should go to this island. The food is amazing, the views, mind-blowing, and the woman who owns and runs the place is an inspiration. A very special place to visit - not to be missed!
A must-visit location. We saw orca through the window from the dining table, and also really interesting are the iron age settlement remnants. Great walks and views around the island, and the lighthouse and out-buildings are thoughtfully renovated.
Litloy Fyr, is a unique and owe inspiring place. To visit and stay on the island was one of the best experiences of of life and is something I treasure! Elena is simple amazing! Hopefully I will be able to visit again soon!
A wonderful hideout on the edge of the world. The island looks very small but kept me busy for three days. Walking, siting, taking pictures, looking at sunsets, watching the aurora, reading and eating the tasty local food.
Had the pleasure of being a volunteer and spent sometime on this Island myself last year. Although it is known to many as a place for catching glimpses of Orca pods that occasionally swim by; or as a location to view the Aurora Borealis, for me it is something more; looking out to the sea, watching the birds soar, listening to the sound of waves crashing upon the shores, feeling as if I am at the edge of the world; away from all the weight that tied me down, having my first good night's sleep in a long time and feeling full of life. Some of the best things are the hardest to describe, perhaps you may understand should you decide to visit someday, though as a guest your experience will no doubt differ, I suspect since now that you are curious about this place like I once was, you will find it too to your liking as I did. Good luck and I hope you will find what you are looking for.
Stayed here in February and left with memories I'll treasure forever. Elena is a fantastic host and chef, and also great fun. I can't imagine a better place to get away from it all.
