The biggest student accommodation of SiO. Different types of houses / flats for students, ranging from single rooms or flats for families to shared flats maximum 7 people. There is a supermarket and a lot of space for sport and bicycles. Public transport connection to the University and city centre is good with a bus stop directly in front and a subway stop 10 minutes away.
SIO will charge you extra a lot for every little thing. Forgot the keycard - 1400kr And on purpose they don't let you get two keycards, so you pay them if you lose it. If you left your apartment with one dustmark - 1000kr for cleaning of super small flat. Trying to ripoff students as much as they can.
Fairly new infrastructure, haven’t had any maintenance problems so far! Overall good position for Blindern campus around 15 minutes of bus ride
I am not satisfied with the price performance Ratio of the room I got in Sogn Studentby. I currently pay about 510€ 580$/month furnished room ~14sqm with shared bathroom and kitchenof rent for a flat share with 6 others. There is only one toilet and 1 shower shared by everyone. The kitchen does not have a dishwasher. The students are also supposed to clean everything themselves. Considering the high rent and the fact that SIO had an annual revenue of 113.5 million dollars I think it is unacceptable. If i would do another exchange in Oslo I would look for a room somewhere else. The only positive point is that a lot of students are close by. Overall I cannot recommend Sogn studentby.
If you rent a room here, ensure it is not one of the refurbished ones. The quality of rooms and common areas varies greatly, but for refurbished rooms you are sure to get only one shower and toilet to share with up to 6 other people. Standard rooms at least have a chance to be on a floor with multiple bathrooms, a bigger kitchen, and a much nicer common area including couches and more. Refurbished rooms have very frugal common rooms, only consisting of a table and some chairs - which is like the bare necessity. If you're unlucky, you might also get a not so nice floor for the standard room, but in my entire time here I have not met a single person in a refurbished room that had a nice common room or more than one shower/toilet per floor. Considering that the refurbished rooms also are about 100€/month more in rent I find that to be really unfair.
My experience of nearly 6 months living here has been a rather dystopian one, in a negative sense. The whole time one must spend with the SiO over the phone or via messages to make banale things work is unreasonable: internet, acces in the building, kitchen oven. Some of the personal examples where the response has been long, weak and not much done beyond the phonecall. I would have much more to say, but I will resume to the fact that it is a poorly managed accomodation, where I would have preffered to be asked for a bit more rent, than having to waste time fixing things.
Sio sogn studentby is amazing place to reside for students and their families. beautiful and calm area.
Nice view from the high floors, it also really convenient since it's close to bus station and T-ban
Great student village in Oslo. Paying a really low price monthly for living and furniture. Under 450 dollars a month includes furniture and all utilities. Shared bathroom and kitchen with full appliances and some extra cups plates and silverware left from past exchange students.
Ganske god plassering og greit miljø. Lokal butikk og ikke for langt til Universitet, T-bane og buss. har selv opplevd at det er dyre og små leieligheter. Ihverfall de umøblerte. Kvaliteten på de ulike byggene er varierende og de oppussede er dyre på kvadratprisen.
