Stokke was a municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Stokke. On January 1st 2017, the municipality, along with Andebu, became a part of the new Sandefjord municipality.BackgroundThe municipality of Stokke was established on January 1st 1838 . Two islands were later transferred from the municipality of Stokke to the neighboring municipality of Nøtterøy: Håøya, and Veierland .General informationNameThe municipality is named after the old Stokke farm, since the first church was built here. The name is the plural form of stokkr which means "log". Coat-of-armsThe coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 13 January 1984. The arms are canting since stokker means "sticks" or "logs". The arms show three gold-colored tree trunks on a red background.
