I love museums and this one as great. I enjoy a museum that is dedicated to a single artist. They have a lovely cafe and gift shop if you don’t buy tickets. However, the tickets are worth it. The collection is excellent and not overwhelming. I would suggest 1.5 hours for a visit. Don’t miss the floor that is dedicated to his home life. It’s really interesting and very creatively executed. The Scream is great to see, but he has so many other interesting works. There are also free lockers for coats and bags. The view of Oslo from the top deck is also a nice bonus.
Visited the Munch Museum expecting to see some famous paintings, but ended up having a full-on adventure! The museum is super modern and spacious, with interactive exhibits that kept both the grown-ups and kids entertained. Who knew art could be so fun? The daughter 10 years old was so into it, they barely noticed we were there for two whole hours—it flew by! And just when you think you've seen it all, you get to the top and bam! Panoramic views that are the cherry on top of the whole experience. Honestly, I came for the art but stayed for the view!
I enjoyed the museum a lot. So many levels to explore and I get to see the famous the scream. Restaurant with panoramic view on top floor and a cafe serving delicious coffee on the main level. Kids up to 17 yo is free and adult is 180NOK per ticket. You go in interval. Lockers are free and there are plenty of clean toilets.
The Munch Museum houses an exceptional collection that highlights the full range of the artist's oeuvre, with several floors of curated exhibition rooms. During our visit, there was free entry after 6 p.m., and both tourists and locals strolled the halls. Of course, the main attraction is the fourth-floor display of The Scream, which offers three versions of the globally famous work. They are rotated on a 30-minute basis, with only one version on display at any given time in order to protect the grouping from overexposure each has metal doors that slide shut across the front, when not on view. And to compare and contrast among these and the final version of the painting, visitors can easily head to the National Museum, which is only a short walk away -- both are well worth a visit!
The Munch Museum or just MUNCH is a vibrant art museum dedicated to the works of the renowned painter and graphic artist. Visitors can immerse themselves in Munch’s masterpieces, including over half of his paintings and most of his graphic works. The museum offers a recreational area for families with children, where kids can explore art techniques like Lithography and create their own masterpieces. Additionally, don’t miss the sky bar on the top floor, where you can enjoy an IPA while taking in stunning views of Oslo.
Really gorgeous artwork from an artist whose work does not much get around to global museums. Excellent retrospectives and quotes, well grouped and designed. I found it unfortunate that the main attraction The Scream! is only on display for 30 minutes every 2 hours, you have to plan your trip around this and I found the justification questionable. It felt like a gimmick, everyone runs to the painting and crowds the hall and it's a bit of a mess. Besides that, this museum has my highest recommendations.
This museum honors Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. One of the world's largest museums devoted to a single artist. It features three versions of his renowned painting “The Scream,” among many other pieces. The most impressive exhibit is called EDVARD MUNCH SHADOWS. Edvard Munch’s home, and his residence until his death. You can touch items with red paint and video/sound display starts. The “Scream” paintings are rotated every 30 minutes, so only one version is on display at any given time. If you want to view all three, you can revisit that floor during your visit. It was easy to navigate and enjoy Munch’s artwork and last floor has other artists paintings. It is a must see art museum.
May24- an amazing museum over several floors. Each a delight and to see Munch develop, his motifs develop. Just superb. Staff excellent. Restaurant good too and some lovely views. Bar open but outside was not for repairs. Like most Oslo it's not inexpensive, but worth the relaxed atmosphere and the art and good food.
Impressive spaces both inside the museum. The views from the upper floors of the building are breathtaking. Interesting interpretation and presentation of the artist's works. And all of that fades away when you unpack the mug you bought in the museum boutique for 300 kroner and its side with a cracked base in the morning at the hotel. I do not recommend buying ceramics in sealed boxes.
