Historie

Troldhaugen oli säveltäjä Edvard Griegin koti Bergenissä, Norjassa. Talo toimii nykyään museona.
Troldhaugenin suunnitteli Griegin serkku, arkkitehti Schak Bull. Grieg asui siellä vaimonsa Nina Griegin kanssa vuosina 1885–1907. Heidän hautansa sijaitsee talon pihalla. Talon läheisyydessä on laakso, johon rakennettiin vuonna 1985 pieni konserttitalo.
Tälle kodille on omistettu eräs Griegin rakastetuimpia sävellyksiä, Hääpäivä Troldhaugenilla.

I booked for one of the twice-daily Grieg piano recitals. On the day I visited, this consisted of three of the Lyric Pieces including the famous "Wedding Day in Troldhaugen", and the Ballade in G minor. The pianist was incredible. Definitely recommended if visiting Bergen. I arrived about 30 minutes in advance of the advertised start time of the concert, as I wanted a good seat - and was able to get one in the front row with excellent view of the piano and fantastic sound.
Very interesting site, accessible by SKYSS bus and a short walk. A tribute to the story of the great Norwegian composer and pianist, Edvard Grieg. A beautiful house on a beautiful space, and a great story!Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidOpptil 10 minForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
As a classical musician I needed to come to Grieg's house to see where so much wonderful music was written. It is in a beautiful setting on a lake and must have been very serene in Grieg's time. Sadly there is now a busy road nearby and neighbouring houses and the serenity is diminished! The museum is not very large, but had a very informative exhibition of photos and artifacts with excellent commentary in English. There was a film about Bergen/Norway set to the music of Grieg, but it was just a travelogue and I would have preferred a more in depth film of Grieg's life. Sadly the house was being renovated inside and out, so photos of the house in its natural setting weren't possible, but we did go inside and it was definitely worth the visit with excellent commentary from the guide. The composer's hut was very lovely as are the surrounding gardens. The house is about a 10 minute walk from the carpark. We went in mid April and it wasn't too busy, but it may be worth buying tickets online, as we did, to make sure you get on a tour as numbers are limited to 12. There is a cafe larger than the museum but it was only serving drinks. A bit underwhelming as a museum, but still good and a must for all classical music lovers.
Well worth visiting even if you are not a classic music buff! Lovely old, well restored house and outside toilet, with stunning views. Next door is the Museum and grass covered roofed Concert Hall. Watch the short video of Norway done to Greig’s music, that’s must.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetid10–30 minutterForhåndsbestilling anbefalesJa
Edvard Grieg's home on Trollhaugen. Easy to get to if you take light rail number 1 to Hop from the centre. about 10 minutes' walk. Nice area around Grieg's house.
One of the best museum experiences I’ve ever had! It was idyllic to walk around in the garden and by the water. We loved listening to guiding through our phones at each sign, and endeavouring into Grieg’s music, pieces carefully selected, while enjoying the same view he had when writing it. It was so beautiful! At the end part of our group even shed tears due to being moved by the music and the scenery. I highly recommend!
I absolutely adore Edvard Grieg, and if in general you like some good piano music, this is the place for you. Walking in the windy and overbearing Bergen rain down to see Grieg’s composition hut is one of the most peaceful, serene, and fun experiences that I can possibly think about. Brilliant view from the concert hall as well, and a really nice museum exhibit with food and accommodations for guests. A MUST-VISIT in Bergen.
If you are a fan of music this is an exciting place to visit. Lovely home and location and seeing the composing cabin was incredible. It is about a 20 minute walk from the train. The train is free with the Bergen card and you also get a discount at the museum with the card.
You will rarely see a more beautifully presented monument to a famous person. Edvard and Nina Grieg's house is beautifully preserved. Entry to the house itself is only with a guide, and ours gave an excellent presentation with just the right amount of information without overwhelming with detail. The upstairs rooms remain off limits, as was Nina's wish, which seems appropriate. Grieg's composing hut is an astounding thing, and preserved inside are his piano, desk and furniture. The gardens, woodland and jetty are all lovely to explore, and Edvard and Nina's tomb in the rockface overlooking the fjord seems the perfect resting place. Finally, there is a beautiful concert hall built sympathetically into the landscape, with the composition hut as the focal point through the front window. We were treated to a note-perfect 30-minute recital of Grieg's works by a young music scholar. In summary, an outstanding visit that gave a wonderful insight into Norway's most famous composer and his no-less talented wife.
