"Tromsø domkirke, midt i Tromsø sentrum, er en langkirke i tre, bygd i 1861 i nygotisk stil. Den rommer over 600 personer. Fordi den er sete for Nord-Hålogaland biskop, er den også kalt en katedral. This beautiful building is the only cathedral in Norway made of wood. It has a few striking stained glass windows and a classic 'Sunday-school' type altar painting. There are two organs, one in the usual place at the back gallery, and one at the front of the church. The interior has a pleasing colour scheme in pale yellow and grey and a stylish gallery on both sides as well as at the back.
The big plus with this cathedral was that it was free and open most of the day It's situated close to the main street and very central on the square Very beautiful stained glass windows , impressive organ and pulpit area There is also a little coffee shop inside. The cathedral gets quite busy with tourists especially when ships dock

Lovely church, great energy. I like the relative simplicity of churches in Tromsø! And the artistic touches. I was so blessed to walk in when the original organ from 1863 was played. It was truly magnificent!!! A short video is attached. The amazing part is the new organ and old organ can be linked together! I can only imagine what harmonious fabulous sound will be cteated! Great information about the history of the organs and the Cathedral. Highly recommend sitting for a few minutes and enjoy the wonderful energy. Open Tuesday & Friday 12-16, Sunday 14-16. No entrance fee. Paid parking only in nearby parking lot.
Tromsø Cathedral, a striking landmark amidst Norway's Arctic landscape, captivates visitors with its elegant architecture and serene ambiance. Its towering spires reach towards the sky, casting a picturesque silhouette against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and the shimmering waters of the fjord. Stepping inside, one is enveloped in a sense of tranquility, as sunlight streams through stained glass windows, illuminating the nave in a kaleidoscope of colors. The cathedral's interior, adorned with intricate woodwork and ornate decor, evokes a palpable sense of reverence and awe. A visit to Tromsø Cathedral is a spiritual journey and a testament to the enduring beauty of Norwegian craftsmanship.
A beautiful church with friendly staff volunteers? and well-presented information boards in a number of languages. This is a space for prayer and reflection, but also welcoming - and unusually these days entry is free, though there are discrete boxes for donations. Frankly, there's far more to see in here than within the Ice Cathedral across the river, despite the Ice Cathedral's admission charge being extortionate!
Amazing wooden cathedral from 1863! Beautyfully ornamented and nicely taken care of. I recommend the Midnight Concerts.Besøkte stedetPå en helgedagVentetidIngen ventetid
