Fortidsminneforeninga er ei frivillig forening for kulturminne- og bygningsvern i Noreg. Vi er òg eigar av 40 viktige historiske eigedomar, mellom desse 8 stavkyrkjer.

Absolutely gorgeous church with its wood carvings. The access to the churchyard and the church itself requires a ticket to a guided tour 130kfor an adult, but OK this includes the guide. The best carvings are on the external northern wall, but the interiors are lovely as well. The guides are very nice. The guided tours start every 30 min or so. There is a small parking space close to the church, or a much bigger place 700m away on the road.
Worth visiting. I would recommend to park your car before the ferry and take it on foot to save some money if you're not going to the waterfall on the same island next. You'll be able to get inside the church / on the close territory only with guide. Guide was a very helpful woman who answered all our questions and told a lot about history and details. A little pricey but not regretting at all
Norges eneste Unesco listede stavkirke av de 28 gjenværende. Trolig 4 kirker fra ca år 1000 fram til dagens hovedkirke fra ca 1130. Siste del av kirkesakristiet er fra 1600-tallet. Vår guide Asta ga oss en god orientering og innsikt på flytende engelsk. Absolutt verdt å ta fergen over fra Solvorn eller kjøre Solsidevegen ned fra Skjolden.
Stunning stave church and Ornes is a stunning little place as well! We accessed it via ferry and had a great boat ride. The church itself has a beautiful location within a small fjord and we decided to walk up to it. If you need some refreshments, there’s also a cafe opposite as well as a little museum.
Nydelig kirke og meget god service av unge guider. Vi ankom rett før stengetid, omvisningen var egentlig avsluttet, men ungdommene som jobber der tok seg god tid til å dele kunnskap og en trivelig prat.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedag
We haven’t seen anything like it, exceptional path like time travel and the surrounding beauty of nature seem unparalleled, we couldn’t get enough of it
We were really surprised and loved our visit here. It’s a bit difficult and expensive to get there 110kr pp + 160 kr for the ferry - this is a van and 2 ppl, but definitely worth it if you have the time. Hearing the stories from the guide and being able to ask questions was the highlight of our visit, eventhough we normally never like guided tours. The church and its history is really interesting and it’s really nice that everything is told by a local.
An incredible living historical monument. This church has magic in the bones and is very much in use today. We visited in mid April 2023, a bit overcast with a late Spring start. The views are beautiful as it sits on top of a hill. There is a small visitor center and we had a guided tour. You are free to walk all around the graves and sit on the pews in the church. Just beautiful.
