Stardalen in Jølster is perfect for hiking. Experience high mountain peakes such as Snønipa (1827 m.a.s.l.) and Bolsetnipa (1214 m.a.s.l.) Snønipa provides a unique view to the glacier Jostedalsbreen, while you from the Bolsetnipa get a panoramic view over lake Jølster, Våtedalen, Stardalen and the mountain close to the glacier Jostedalsbreen. The landscape around Jostedalsbreen Glacier is Magic, quiet and frightening at the same time. The glacier fascinates, frightens and attracts, steeping from the mountain stretching its ice blue arms from the prehistoric period down towards the valley. The Jostedalsbreen Glacier is the largest glacier on the European Mainland. In Jølster you can see it both from the main road E39 in the Kjøsnesfjord and in Stardalen.
To walk on the glacier is a uniqe and exciting experience for both Young and old. If you would like to visit the glacier you must use a local guide. National Tourist Route Gaularfjellet from Balestrand to Eldalsosen and Moskog, and from Eldalsosen to Sande has a total length of 130 km. This is a Journey passing protected rivers, waterfalls, and a tranquil fjord. The road runs along an arm of the worlds longest fjord, the Sognefjord, before curving up the steep slopes to the mountain. Further on, the road follows the protected Gaula river system, which is famous for its many waterfalls, but also has white-water rapids and tranquil mountain lakes.
