BACKGROUND:
Over 90 percent of the iron ore mining in the EU takes place in northern Sweden. Northern Sweden and Finland also contribute to significant parts of the European production of gold, silver, sink and copper. The two countries are also the world’s second and third largest exporters of pulp, paper and sawn timber in terms of volume.
The seafood industry in Norway is rapidly expanding with a continuous growth in export to the European markets. It is also observed a shift of dominating markets for fresh seafood from the Western to the Central and Eastern parts of Europe – with Poland and Russia as the main destinations for this export.
