Grenna Museum Andréexpeditionen Polarcenter

I visited the museum in the mid 90:s and surprisingly I liked it better then than now. As I recall it, it had snowstorm sounds around the balloon gondola and it felt almost like you were there. More of the old photos too? My memories might fool me but it felt more authentic as well as carrying more sentimental value at that time. Now the gondola and ropes sorry I don’t know the correct name! hang in the middle of the staircase, not calling attention at all.nI still highly recommend the exhibition. It’s an amazing time capsule you enter with all the things found virtually intact after 33 years. If you’re a polar expedition nerd you can spend hours here, if only interested I say around one. It’s well laid out and there’s plenty of stuff to learn. Funny additions for kids. The polar bear or walrus grunts add to the atmosphere but snowstorm was way better.nI appreciate that the researcher Bea Uusma has been acknowledged. I have read her book and watched her documentaries, I’m leaning towards that she’s right. But she’s not finished so we’ll see!

Visited with low expectations and it turned out to be a great experience. Nice videos, you get to see real items from the original expedition and the ones to follow. Also an homage to women north pole explorers is a nice touch. Very child friendly, and can take up to two hours.

the museum presents the tragic story about people who tried to get the north. During the XIX century the goal about North was really important for people living in Sweden. People became a heroes after expeditions to the north. The museum has been centered on the adventurous undertaking of Salomon August Andrée and other explorers in their balloon expedition to the North Pole. The short film after the entry of the museum is worth watching for an overview. There are also other expedition stories and technologies displayed in the museum expanding the theme.

Surprisingly interesting and well-thought-of museum. We followed the advice of the staff and started with the short film about the expedition, which was very insightful and emotional. It really sets the tone for the rest of the exhibition, which, on its own, also has a lot of relevant pieces to check out. Worth it.
