The old main building of Uppsala university is beautiful and a must see. Here is a video of the place that I have shot. @Harbi_Insight
I am a PhD student in Analytical Chemistry at Uppsala University and I feel responsible to share my experience, especially for international students considering pursuing a PhD here. Let me be clear: I believe Uppsala is an excellent university overall, with a strong international reputation and many brilliant people. But what I’ve experienced within my department has been deeply disappointing and harmful.nnI was well on track to finish my PhD, with one published paper, another fully drafted, and a third based on completed data, and I already had 75% of the data needed for a fourth paper. But instead of being supported to complete the degree, I was pushed to do a licentiate thesis under pressure, with unrealistic deadlines and without proper support.nnIn the Organic Chemistry section of the department, students typically get up to two years to prepare and defend their licentiate thesis. In Analytical Chemistry, it’s standard to have at least one year just to analyze data and write a manuscript. But I was given only four months to analyze data, write and submit a manuscript, attend courses, teach undergraduate labs, and prepare and defend a licentiate thesis, all at once. This wasn’t just unfair, it was impossible to manage and shows how unevenly students are treated depending on who they are and where they’re from.nnI was also denied lab access, research software, and consistent supervision. The department claims I can still finish, but in reality, I only have access to my university email. Key meetings about my future were held in Swedish, despite the fact that I don’t speak the language and that all prior communication was in English. Requests for support or fairness were met with silence, excuses, or shifting explanations.
One of the oldest university of Sweden . The buildings are scattered in different locations of the city. Students around the world come here to polish their skills. Skype was developed by IT graduates of Uppsala University.
