Historie

The Norwegian Center for Studies of the Holocaust and Religious Minorities opened its doors to the public on August 24, 2006, in the former residence of Vidkun Quisling known as Villa Grande, on the peninsula of Bygdøy in Oslo. The center's endowment was donated by the Norwegian government at the behest of the Jewish community of Norway as part of the restitution made to Norwegian Jews for the confiscation of their property while Norway was occupied during World War II.The center was established under the auspices of the University of Oslo and has a twofold mission: Educating the public on the Holocaust, especially as related to the Norwegian experience, i.e., disenfranchisement, persecution, arrests, confinement, confiscation, and deportation to death camps outside of Norway, especially Auschwitz. This extends to studies of antisemitism in and outside of Norway, in the past, present, and future. Studying ethnic and religious minorities, especially in Norway. To this end, the center offers educational materials, programs, exhibitions, a museum, and library collections. Though it is an independent entity, it has established formal relationships with the University of Oslo, Yad Vashem, and the Jewish Museum in Trondheim.

This visit was incredibly informative and more than I had anticipated for the trip. I truly did not understand the gravity of involvement that Norway had with the holocaust in all respects. It was very revealing and informative. I encourage anyone looking to visit Oslo to pass by.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
U/Synlig-avdelingen var fin, oppdatert og relevant. Holocaustdelen innholder utrolig mye tekst og oppmeves litt utdatert formidlingsmessig. Mange av installasjonene virket ikke.Besøkte stedetPå en helgedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
Absolutely amazing staff, but this center/museum is not very accessible as almost everything is in Norwegian. I also wish there were clearer directions on how to get here. The top floor was impactful, especially hearing the stories of people who are not Jewish but have some similar experiences.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
Quisling's old gaff This is a description in demotic anglosaxon which some humourless yankee fails to comprehend. This house belonged to the traitor quisling, is a rough translation you stupid cuntBesøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
Dette er ett informarikt sted. Selfølgelig dystert med dette temaet. Litt lite. Men én viktig plassBesøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
A very good place to visit and see what happened to the Norwegian Jews during the war. Has many displays mostly in the Norwegian language, however a tablet is provided for those who want the info in English. The cafeteria is very good. Had some excellent soup there.
Interesting to learn the history of the 772 Jews deportation on the SS Donau back in 1942. At the beginning of the exhibition the ships Bell, which would have been rung as it departed on that fateful day 26th November, is prominently displayed. Could really do with more English Script to explain the displays. Some information is given on a tablet provided at the start of your tour but it's not specific enough to the displays. Lovely building and grounds.
Would be great if their exposition on the topic of racism could we hosted in a more central place, like city hallBesøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesNei
En innholdsrik dag med Dembra-samling i Quislings festsal. Et hus med en viktig historie. Utstillingen ‘U/Synlig’ gjorde inntrykk.
I would recommend to visit this place, it's incredibly interesting and it is sad, but being able to see some historical finds , that's priceless.
