The Dina Foundation is a Norwegian aid organzation with a primary focus on helping raped girls in the DRC.
The Dina Foundation was founded in 2004. It all started in August of 2002 as the founder, Rune Edvardsen, was on a journey in the DRC. Edvardsen met Dina, and her mother, who had witnessed her 2-year-old daughter being raped by soldiers. Edvardsen involved himself, and a home for raped girls was built. This girls’ home was named The Dina Center, and was the very beginning of The Dina Foundation.
Dina has become the rescue for hundreds of girls who have been victims of one of the war's brutalities. Today, the Foundation helps 270 raped girls at two centers in eastern Congo. The girls move out when they get big enough to fend for themselves, and The Dina Foundation will then be able to help new girls. The Dina Foundation is working to expand one of the centers, so that even more girls can get help.
