Historie

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Oslo was established in 2004, and is one of the youngest embassies in Europe. The Embassy is accredited to Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.

H.E. Ambassador M.Y. Maroofi was appointed the first Afghan ambassador to Norway by President Hamid Karzai in 2004, and was officially accredited to the court of Norway on October 6th, 2004. Mr. Maroofi served as ambassador to Norway and non-resident envoy to Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland until May 2007.

H.E. Ambassador Jawed Ludin was appointed Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Norway by President Hamid Karzai in 2007, and was officially accredited to the court of Norway on May 31st, 2007. Mr. Ludin served as ambassador to Norway and non-resident envoy to Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland until June 2009.

H.E Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari was appointed Afghanistan's Ambassador to Norway by President Hamid Karzai in 2009, and was officially accredited to the court of Norway on November 5th, 2009. H.E. Bakhtari served as Ambassador to Norway and non-resident envoy to Denmark, Finland and Iceland until August 2015.

The present Ambassador H.E. Shukria Barakzai was appointed Afghanistan's Ambassador to Norway and non-resident envoy to Denmark, Finland, and Iceland by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in 2015, and was officially accredited to the court of Norway on 11 February 2016.
