Simple yet complicated. Food scene has definitely up its game in the region in the past 2 decades. Situated along the water front shops. A touch of old fish market fell of old Bergen. Whale carpaccio was delicious. Would definitely come back.Mat: 5/5
Excellent experience from start to finish. We came sort of late - they were closing within an hour, so we didn't have to wait for the table to open up. The cocktail and hard liquor selection is a little short, but wines and varied, and with some beers on the menu, there's something for everyone. We ordered the mussel soup, steamed halibut and pan fried catfish. Everything was beyond amazing. The sides of steamed veg medley, and soft pasta salad perfectly complimented the tender meat and the purée finished the texture and flavor palate with a bang. The restaurant is on the second floor of the building that's part of the historic Bryggen row houses, so expect crooked, creaking floors, curved ceilings and walls, but also beautiful antiques and furniture. A true Norwegian high class experience! Second visit update: we came specifically for the delicious brown cheese ice cream, but also ordered the smoked whale cold and scallop 'soup' warm appetizers, The appetizers were tasty, but overpriced for what you're getting not even enough to share with one more person. This time, we sat at a table that was literally tilted, so it felt like you're going to fall on your side or that your water will slide off the table. But it all just adds to the overall Bryggen experience!
Unique ambiance that transports you back in time with generous, delicious portions and supportive staff. On the expensive side but worth every cent. The house wine is delicate and good.Mat: 4/5
Lovely dining experience in a beautiful romantic traditional old building. Service was great and whale carpaccio delicious. Fish mains were pretty salty, maybe could be lifted by some lemon juice or something sweet!Mat: 4/5
Our first monkfish lobster of the poor and it was delicious. The service and atmosphere are fabulous as well. Note that entrance is on second floor and To Kokker at the end of the corridor downstairsMat: 5/5
Excellent meal, service, and ambiance. Not to be missed in Bergen! Possibly the best salmon I’ve had in my life. Recommend a reservation, we snuck in at 5 but heard others turned away. If you like quaint, charming restaurants with modern Nordic food this is for you.Mat: 5/5
After a long flight to Bergen from NYC, we were hungry and delighted to find this place. The fish stew was one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had. The pesto salmon was yummy and the space was very warm and welcoming. Norway is expensive, but would highly recommend this place to anyone coming into Bergen looking for a less crowded, very elegant meal. We got to sit for a bit, relax, and soak in our surroundings.
Steamed halibut and pan fried catfish dishes were delicious and the brown cheese ice cream was to die for.Mat: 5/5
found this place by a simple google search and walked over from our hotel. almost did not get to try it out because they had so many reservations. but luckily, we were able to sit and eat. It it 100% worth trying, so make the reservation after reading this! the food was delicious and the presentation was perfect. the brown cheese ice cream was a perfect ending to a fantastic meal! we did the 5 Course option, worth the price!
Really enjoyable meal. The house white wine was amazing. The bread service was salty and delicious. A minor detail- but the water pitcher came with ice. I got the salmon, which was tasty. And everyone else enjoyed their meals. The blueberry tart with ice cream was fresh and well made. Friends got the brown cheese ice cream, which they enjoyed. The location was nice. Highly recommended.
