Go and see the inside, and if you can, take one of the 3 daily tours in English. The story of the building, its creation and the amazing wall murals is very captivating. Our guide, Haakon, was excellent. Definitely the best guided tour we’ve been on for some time.
Beautiful design and architecture in the heart of Oslo. Oslo City Hall was constructed between 1931 and 1950, with an interruption during the Second World War. It is built of red brick and has two towers, one 63 meters tall and other 66 meters tall. The bricks used are larger than what was typical at the time of construction, but are roughly the same size as bricks used in the Middle Ages. On December 10 anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death each year, Oslo City Hall hosts the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in which the annual laureate gives a lecture and is awarded the medal and diploma. A podium for the laureate and the Nobel Committee is erected in the far end of the hall for each ceremony. The Norwegian royal family and prime minister are attendants. Must have a visit if you planning to visit Oslo.
Pretty building located close by the sea. Did not visit the interior, only saw the outside and the surroundings: the harbour promenade area, the Nobel building. Beautiful area.
May24-. Free to enter and pass through security To be following in the steps of those who accept the Nobel Peace Prize is just phenomenal. And that we saw weddings too. Ornate, historical.and so accessible. Amazing. Must see if in Oslo
Beautiful town hall with artwork and tapestry. WC downstairs is very clean and free. Must go through metal detectors and screening.
Went there today with my girlfriend around 1 pm. The place is massive. It had a relaxing environment and a good vibe to it. There is a security check point when you want to enter the building. Which takes only a few minutes. The place has a lovely architecture to it. There are a lot of artifacts and scenes. I'd definitely recommend people to visit this place.
gorgeous, stunning architecture, though i’d say you only need to stay a brief period for the full experience 15-20min
Beautiful building in heart of Oslo. It is well connected by bus, metro, tram and ferry. Also many of the places are just waking distance from here. Architecture is amazing. Brick walls looks beautiful and huge building. The inner hall is having beautiful paintings and other view. Must visit on Oslo.
We did know much about this place but our walking tour guide advised us to go inside and see it. Next day we came early in the mornig when there was no queu at all. Please note that entrance is free. It was amazing inside. One has to see it to appreciate it. At lobby level there was a big hall with beautiful paintings all four sides. The Noble Peace Prize ceremony takes place in this hall. On the first floor there were many rooms with awesome paintings and murals by 20th century Norway painters. Each room was better than other. We though we would finish in half an hour but we spent almost two hours inside. Please note the main entrance is from city centre and not from sea side. Don’t miss it…
Amazing architecture. For a long time I didn’t know that you could go inside this place and admire the beauty of the architecture. And when I visited, I was left impressed by every minute details there. I even visited the place for a dinner hosted by the mayor and the feel was great to be there. Would 100% recommend everyone to visit this place. It’s truly worth it and free to enter. Also while entering they check your bags and scan you. So best to not carry too many unnecessary things with you.
