Here you find both the grave, "Kiviksgraven", and the Café Sågmöllan. We are open approximately May 1 - September 31. Entrance fee to the grave.
In the eastern outskirts at Kivik you find the big bronze age cairn “Kiviksgraven” and Cafe Sågmöllan (sawmill). The 3 500-year-old bronze age mound hides a cist coved with petroglyphs.
The images tell us about travel, both living and spiritual, rituals and ceremonies. They also show us musical instruments, clothing and objects. The cairn with its unique coffin, however, is not the oldest grave monument which stood here.
When the carin was built, an already 2,000 year old burial site, was torn down. The oldest grave discovery from a pit under the mound is actually 6,000 years! The youngest is from the late iron age, around 550 BC.
You find the whole prehistoric Österlen in one place!
On the property, you also find the oldest café in the area Café Sågmöllan. The house, a combination saw/grinder and residence, was built in 1874 by the lay judge Per Persson from Eliselund. The sawmill provided boatbuilding at Kivik and Vitemölle with great oak.
Local furniture maker got a perfect material in elm to use in their work. It is said that at the time, nearly all residences had furniture in wood sawn in our sawmill. The mill also provided the neighborhood with flour.
In 1939 it became a café here and today in the rustic water mill environment provides the cafeteria inside. The terrace at the back is wonderful. Like stepping into another world with the pond, the babbling brook and hardly any sound coming from the modern world's noises.
Everything served here is baked on site, from scratch. You can get everything as gluten-free from the freezer. Milk and egg free are also available. It is also baked at site in careful hygienic forms. Most famous is our lovely waffles, our big cinnamon rolls and the, in "Lonely Planet" mentioned, raspberry crumble pie.
The property is owned by the Swedish State, managed by the national property Board and rented by Asmiroca Kulturarvsupplevelser (Asmiroca Heritage experiences).
