This hotel is next to the train station and about a 15 minute walk to the downtown area. Lots of streets to cross. Watch out for scooters, bikes, walkers, cars and trams. The room was small. A family room included two single beds and two beds that come down from the wall. The beds are not comfortable. The room is hot. The air didn’t work great and we couldn’t open the window. Shower is hot. Still flooded the bathroom no matter what you do. The front desk is helpful and kind. You pay for what you get here.
I have stayed here twice now with my wife.nnWhile small, the rooms are generally efficient with reasonably comfortable beds and many have these bunk beds that fold out from the wall which is great for families especially.nnThe breakfast buffet is a true highlight, especially for US travelers who are used to the poor standards of their hotel breakfasts. The quality of the breakfast food in general and particularly the fresh bread, is truly almost worth the stay in and of itself! I know that seems silly to say but there is truth to it. I looked forward to this upon my second stay here. Depending on the day, the breakfast can be quite crowded so I recommend an early time.nnThe location is ideal, very close to the Central Train Station and Trams so you can get practically anywhere from this hotel. It is right across the street from a COOP grocery store and short distance from several restaurants.nnI only have two complaints about this hotel:nn1. The bathrooms: Some are better than others but the ones with tubs do not have shower curtains so the whole bathroom gets soaked in water after a shower, including the toilet paper. I wish this would update.nn2. Noise. Especially on weekends or after football matches, there are many loud, drunk, noisy patrons screaming in the hallways which can be disruptive to those who need to sleep. Also the rooms on the north and west facing side will hear the trams rolling by.
Very attentive staff, specially at the bar/restaurant area. They supported my family nicely and were very polite.nThere's a good area in the back for cars to drop/pick up people.nThe dinner was good and the food portion is bigger than the average in Sweden.
Wouldn't stay here again.nnNow let me tell you why. Negative points first.nnAlthough it is described as central, it isn't really, and you have to get transport to pretty much anywhere that is not the shopping centre or the bus station.nnThere is massive building works taking place to build a transport hub right next to and surrounding the hotel. This includes night shifts, and makes access a challenge when you first try to get here. There is not mention of this when you book or in arrival instructions. We spent 15 minutes trying to work out how to get from the bus station to the hotel and they did not answer their phone when we rang for helpnnThe rooms are odd. They look very fancy yet are lacking some very basic features.nnThere is a fancy mirror stand to hang your clothes on which is useless for a couple staying for a few days. No drawers of any sort so you end up storing clothes in your bag yet it has a fancy slim fridge hidden in a cupboard. Has about 8 lamps though, no sure why a designer would think that would be important to a traveller.nnThey provide soap and conditioner and hand soap in the bathroom but not kettle or tea in the room.nnTowels are tiny. Hand towels are large flannels and large towels are like large hand towels.nnThey have a mega fancy huge TV that you can connect your phone to in order to play music and videos. BUT you can hear every sound made in the rooms on either side, above, and below you.nnThey have usb a and usb c sockets in your room but only one of each. So you'd still have to bring a plug because between us we have 8 items that charge. Either go full monty and provide the sockets or don't.nnNo guide to your room. A qr code for some details with a lot of broken links and not a lot more than a few menus.nnNo phone in your room so you can't contact reception.nnEven if you rang reception via your mobile which I did they won't pick up because there are not enough staff for such a huge hotel.nnEvery time you buy anything at the hotel the payment system asks for a tip. Why?nI don't tip the bus driver every time I get on and off, and they were working harder than the bar staff. Such a strange thing to do and make the whole hotel seem cheap.nnYou can get hot drinks in the lobby. I naively thought this was their way of replacing kettles in the rooms like we found in Iceland. Nope, 25K each BUT always a huge queue at reception.nnBreakfast... My crikey this was bad.nIt is arranged in a long rectangle with the buffet at one end. And seating that stretches for what seems like miles.nNot enough drinks stations so long queues AGAIN to get coffee or juice.nHard to get a seat. Few staff so lots of dirty tables.nnI had..nnScrambled eggs coldnBacon warmnMeatballs warmnSausages coldnnThen moved on to continental pastries x3 and fruit. Fruit was underripe and the pastries were stale.nnSo yep, breakfast was interesting.nnGood points.nnRoom was very clean. Beds very comfy.nnThe bar on the 14th floor was amazing to have a drink in and watch the views.nThe pizza in the lobby is outstanding.nThe staff if you can find one are lovely.nView from our room was great. They let us check in early which we are very grateful for. The whole hotel is beautiful. Superbly designed, very fancy, very comfortable, like walking into a massive Ikea showroom.nnI know now why this was a bargain for a short break.nnI don't regret booking here. I absolutely WOULD NOT recommend coming as there are much better hotels, and actually, from our many visits to Sweden, this one is way below their usual standard.
In the shadow of Clarion Hotel PostnnAs the title suggests, Scandic Crown is literally in the shadow of Clarion Hotel Post. The hotel's location is incredibly significant, situated in the heart of Gothenburg and just a few steps from the train station. You can't stay any more central—bustling life with various exciting restaurants in the area. I have previously stayed at the Clarion Hotel Post, which is a better hotel, even though it is also starting to show its age. I stayed there in early August, and the hotel revealed that they saved money during the summer season. The price was the same per night as in surrounding hotels, but they probably maintain a higher standard. The first night I stayed in a Superior room with a window facing the atrium. The bathroom was small and dirty, the pillows were hard, and the air conditioning did not work. I thank the good service that I was moved to a suite the next day. Suite? The room was not much bigger than the Superior room, but the bathroom was much larger, and the room had a balcony. In this room, the pillows were just as hard, the sink in the toilet was clogged, the TV by the bathtub did not work, and the conditioner container was empty. However, I appreciate the upgrade to a better room, as I barely slept the night before in a room without air conditioning or the ability to open the window. Scandic Crown is a worn-out hotel that should have been renovated.nThe staff is helpful and smiling. But the woman who checked me in didn't know if the room was near the elevator or not. It was next to the elevator! Half an hour before breakfast closed, the staff wondered if we wanted more from the buffet, as it would be closing in half an hour. The water, apple juice, and orange juice dispensers were blocked for use during breakfast. The gluten-free offer at breakfast was so poor that they should be ashamed of themselves. The men's toilet in the common area was closed for the summer. There were communal toilets located one floor up in the conference department, but they had been blocked off for the summer. This was my first and last time at Scandic Crown. Next time in Gothenburg, I will probably choose another hotel in the same area. Radisson, Clarion Post, and Scandic Europa are situated adjacent to each other in the exact location.
