The double passage grave:nnSnarringe also known as Hammarlöv 1a and 1b is one of only three double passage graves Swedish: Dubbelgånggrifter in Sweden, all located in Scania the others being Stenhögen and Stora Kungsdösen. The passage grave is situated approximately 800 meters northeast of the village of Skegrie municipality of Trelleborg. It was constructed between 3500 and 2800 BC as a megalithic monument of the Funnelbeaker culture TBK. A passage grave is a type of Neolithic megalithic monument consisting of a chamber and a structurally separate, lateral passage. This type is primarily found in Denmark, Germany, and Scandinavia, as well as occasionally in France and the Netherlands.nnIt is a rare, but notably rare, special form of passage grave, known for 57 examples, particularly on Zealand and North Jutland in Denmark. It originated as a megalithic structure of the Funnelbeaker culture FBC. Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their construction and function are considered hallmarks of social development.nnSnarringe has two chambers relatively short for passage graves built approximately one meter apart within the same long barrow. Each chamber originally had a lateral entrance. The northern chamber, with a base area of 3.0 m × 2.2 m, is 1.7 m high and has a passage approximately two meters long, which, unusually, begins in the northeast. The southern chamber, measuring approximately 2.0 m × 2.0 m, is 1.5 m high. The passage of the southern chamber has been removed. Both chambers have two capstones, on which hundreds of cup marks are found.nnFinds made in the mid-19th century date the FBC structure to between 3500 and 2800 BC. In the northern chamber, a skeleton, an axe, human bone fragments and shards were found; the southern chamber yielded bone fragments, an amber bead, flint blades, a grindstone, shards and a Middle Neolithic pot.
Snarringe is a small town in Hammarlöv parish in Trelleborg municipality in Söderslätt in Skåne. Here is a double-aisle tomb built during the early Middle Neolithic period around 3400–3000 BC.
