Västerlövsta Kyrka

Lovely Swedish church. If you are looking for something different from big Catholic cathedrals, this is a nice church to check. I really liked the graveyard outside as well.

A rather charming church with a vast graveyard. The interiors are fine but nothing out of the ordinary. It's location, on top of a hill overlooking Heby on all sides, is its best feature.

Beautiful older cemetery with a slope and large beautiful trees. The church building is of impressive size and with its tower it can be seen far beyond the borders of Heby village. The church is open during the day and you can go inside and enjoy the silence. The ceiling paintings are whitewashed in most of the church but at the front of the choir the pictures have been brought out to view. Unfortunately there was no information to read about the history of the church. Some impressive tombstones could be seen inside the church by the choir. The church room is sparsely decorated and not as lavish as some other churches can be. Two young people were cleaning the church during my visit. Well worth a visit to walk around the cemetery and take a look inside the church. The altarpiece is incredibly well decorated and carved. An interesting detail is the balcony and small opening in the wall with steep stairs next to the choir and the pulpit. What could these have been used for? Imaginative architectural details.

Very nice church. The priest is so humble.
