This is a place where you could spend days, either enjoying reading or just looking at the architecture. It is a welcoming space. One can choose a book and sear and read in one of the many seating areas spread along the different levels. There is a floor for children, and as you climb to the upper floors, it becomes quieter. It seems they are meeting rooms, but I'm not sure if they are available for rent to anyone. The location is also very convenient, you could even seat and relax with a view to the Opera building and the bay.
The best library ever seen! Super inclusive, with plenty of areas for kids and adults. It makes you eager to come here and read. Even as a tourist, I recommend paying a visit the entry is free. Well done Oslo!
Simply wow. An awesome example of what a public library can be. Excellent architecture and design, amazing views, tons of content, great space usage, family and kid friendly, cafe, etc.
I would recommend checking out this library to anyone who is visiting Oslo. The building features modern and striking architecture, both inside and out. It is a large building with many facilities, even including places to eat and drink, while still offering a peaceful and quiet hideaway in the middle of Oslo.
Amazing. So engaging even just to explore the space. Peaceful and spacious. People-forward design, not your stuffy old library. Tons of services available beyond just the borrowing of books.
Huge and high tech library open to the public. It's a multi storied building with great architecture. You also have a store, washroom, restaurant. Worth a visit.
Deichman Bjørvika is a large library located close to Oslo central station. The library has a large variety of themes and books, as well as art. It is a public library so it’s free admission. The library has multiple seating areas on each floor and is a great place to study. However, it is recommended to arrive early as the seating areas fill up quickly. They have a separate floor for children and children’s books, and host arrangements like sewing classes. There is also a separate music area with some instruments available. On the ground floor there is a library cafe with baked goods and beverages.
Remarkably over-engineered library that’s hard to navigate to find what you’re looking for. Many levels and half-levels to it. Could have had great views of the city but the walls are covered in opaque glass with tiny windows. Just doesn’t make sense.
This stunning public library is open to all and is a must visit for any who enjoy modern architecture. Located right next door to the central railway station, the library is extensive and innovative. It has won awards for its design and is welcoming to all visitors both from the city and from further afield.
Lovely public library open until late free of charge! You can read a book or just relax in the city center, admiring the views from inside. On the 5th floor, there is the Future Library's silent room, a project that shows the Norwegian values and nature relatedness: in 2014, they planted a forest which will grow for 100 years to serve as paper for 100 manuscripts that are written one by one every year, but won't be published until 2114. Authors like Margaret Atwood or Karl Ove Knausgård have already given their manuscripts, which until 2114, are kept in the silent room on the 5th floor of the public library. You can read more about it here: https://www.futurelibrary.no/. Wonderful experience.
