The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway, is an extraordinary journey into the Viking Age. It showcases three remarkably well-preserved Viking ships, each unearthed from burial mounds around the Oslo Fjord. These vessels, dating back to the 9th century CE, offer a fascinating glimpse into Viking shipbuilding and burial practices. The accompanying artifacts, ranging from ornate decorations to everyday tools, provide a rich context for understanding Viking culture and society.
The Viking Ship Museum was amazing. Three 9th century wooden boats - it’s amazing they have survived! I loved every minute I had here, and got some amazing videos as souvenirs. I learned a lot about the Vikings and consider this museum a highlight of my trip Oslo.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesIkke sikker
At first it can look a bit empty and even slightly disappointing that minimalist Scandinavian way but then you see the real Viking ships and start noticing all the support information all around. It's a very specific museum and one you can't find anywhere else.VentetidIngen ventetid
Great place with tons of history on display. Great findings from an era long gone. Ferry ride is lively also. You’ll need a bit more than an hour to wonder around. One of the most interesting things to do while in Oslo.Besøkte stedetPå en ukedagVentetidIngen ventetidForhåndsbestilling anbefalesIkke sikker
The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway, is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts. Situated on the Bygdøy Peninsula, the museum houses well-preserved Viking ships, including the Oseberg ship, Gokstad ship, and Tune ship. These remarkable vessels, dating back to the 9th century, showcase the intricate craftsmanship and maritime prowess of the Viking Age. Visitors can marvel at the detailed carvings, artifacts, and learn about the cultural and seafaring heritage of the Vikings. The museum provides a fascinating glimpse into Norway's maritime history, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in the legacy of the Viking era.
Wow, this museum was awe-inspiring! The building itself is not very large, but the artifacts inside really do a great job of using the available space. The Viking ships themselves have been preserved very well. The other artifacts expand on the historical knowledge and understanding of the time. The Viking Ship Museum is a must see if you are in the area!

The most amazing artifacts I have seen. We spent the entire day here because there is so much to see. An original village, ships, and art. So beautiful! I would love to live in the neighborhood surrounding the museum! —2016
One of my favorite museums with burial ships restored from 90% of their original wood. These ships actually sailed the seas with the Vikings aboard and were later used in burial mounds for Viking elders. Very well done, informative and don’t miss the beautiful projection movie showing the short history of the ships. It’s beautiful.
