Beautiful Palace! The love story of King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia is very beautiful. Happy 50th anniversary to both of them.nnBuying tickets in advance is recommended. The entrance is very tricky to locate. Many people were lost. Please put better signs.
I think it’s one of the biggest royal palaces in the world. It’s a truly magnificent palace. I suggest you visit the inside, a very beautiful history is exhibited inside as well. I also recommend that you watch the shift shift.
The Royal Palace of Sweden, which is still used today for the official duties of the monarch. With more than 600 rooms, it is one of the largest royal palaces in Europe. The palace stands on the site of Tre Kronor, a medieval fortress that was largely destroyed in a devastating fire in 1697. It was subsequently rebuilt in the Baroque style, giving it its present appearance. The Royal Treasury, the Royal Stables and ceremonial carriages, and the Changing of the Guard ceremony are among its most popular attractions.n※ Included in the Go City Pass.
The Stockholm Royal Palace is a grand, accessible historic landmark that beautifully reflects Sweden’s approachable monarchy. Exploring its regal halls instantly brings to mind the royal family’s touching history, including legendary love stories like King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. For me, it evoked the modern fairy tale of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. Recalling their moving wedding, Prince Daniel’s heartfelt tears and beautiful speech during their ceremony 16 years ago perfectly highlight the genuine warmth that defines this beloved royal family.
Stockholm Palace or Kungliga slottet, is the official residence of the Swedish monarch.nIt is located on Stadsholmen in Gamla stan the Old Town.nnDesigned in the Italian Baroque style by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, it was built on the site of the former 'Tre Kronor Castle' after it burned down in 1697.nThe facade is decorated with several large bronze and stone sculptures.nnOne can see a yellow sentry box in the foreground in my picture, which is used by the Royal Guards Hogvakten who have protected the palace since 1523.nnThis happens to be the official residence and primary workplace of the Swedish monarch in Gamla stan, Stockholm.nnThe western wing, specifically seen in my image, is known as the 'King's side'.nnThis façade represents 'The Male Qualities' and the King himself, featuring masculine and martial attributes.nnIt is adorned with nine relief medallions of Swedish kings from Gustav Vasa to Karl XI and ten 18 ft tall female sculptures known as caryatids.nnThe curving free standing wings that enclose the outer courtyard were inspired by the Teatro delle Acque at Villa Aldobrandini near Rome.nnThe palace was completed in stages, with the royal family moving in by 1754.nnThe outer courtyard in front of this facade is where the daily changing of the Guard ceremony takes place.nnThe palace has undergone extensive facade restorations, with the eighth stage which completed in 2021.nnWhile the King and Queen live at Drottningholm Palace, Stockholm Palace remains the official state residence, used for receptions and as the workplace for the Royal Court.nnMy visit during 2025 was worth of all the times spent close to these historic buildings.
