Sweden’s principal museum of fine arts, featuring classical paintings, European art, Swedish national art, and decorative arts and design. The collection includes works by European masters such as Rembrandt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, alongside major Nordic artists including Carl Larsson and Alexander Roslin. The museum also displays works by Nordic sculptors such as Johan Tobias Sergel. Its exhibitions on Nordic design are particularly impressive.nNote: Free admission is offered every Thursday from 17:00 to 20:00.n※ Included in the Go City Pass.
Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum is one of the most important art museums in Sweden, with a strong collection of both Scandinavian and European art. Inside you can see works ranging from the Middle Ages up to the early 1900s, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts.nnThe building itself is also impressive — a 19th-century structure that was fully renovated in 2018, now with a much more modern and open interior. The lighting and layout make it easy and comfortable to walk through.nnOverall, it’s one of those places in Stockholm that gives you a good mix of history, art, and atmosphere in a single visit
I arrived on Thursday during the free hours and it was such an experience. They had live choir music and it made the entire place feel supernatural. Their collection of Tobias Sergel and Rembrandt works are also impressive. I didn’t have the time to see all floors.nThe souvenir store has also really cool stuff to buy
Very nice building and lovely collection. I was surprised by some famous names I saw there - like Gauguin, Manet, Cézanne and Renoir - though most of his paintings were in Musée d'Orsay for big Renoir exhibition.nnThey also have nice collection of Orthodox icons.nStuff was friendly and nice.nnI definately recommend it.
Free entrance every Thursday from 5-8pm which was really nice!! The museum wasn’t so big but it was nice to walk around! There was a jazz band playing as well!
