National Museum

This place is an absolute gem right on the waterfront! The collection of fine art and classical design is impressive, but honestly, the building itself is the real star. Wandering through the grand central staircase, the soaring glass-and-steel inner courtyard ceiling is just spectacular to look up at as the natural daylight pours in. On Thursdays afternoon the entrance is free.

Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum is one of the most important art museums in Sweden, with a strong collection of both Scandinavian and European art. Inside you can see works ranging from the Middle Ages up to the early 1900s, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts.nnThe building itself is also impressive — a 19th-century structure that was fully renovated in 2018, now with a much more modern and open interior. The lighting and layout make it easy and comfortable to walk through.nnOverall, it’s one of those places in Stockholm that gives you a good mix of history, art, and atmosphere in a single visit

Visited the Nationalmuseum during the Stockholm Night of Museums and had a great time. Spent three hours exploring, but could have easily stayed longer because there is so much to see.nThe collection has an impressive variety. It mixes major international names like Rembrandt and Arcimboldo with incredible local Nordic artists, like Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson. The building itself is beautiful and everything is well laid out.nDefinitely worth it.

It was very beautiful and interesting however we were missing something spectacular in the vaults. The vaults and under the Castle was more interesting than the jewels and pig/cow/chicken bones. Overall very beautifully decorated and interesting but lacked a wow factor.

I arrived on Thursday during the free hours and it was such an experience. They had live choir music and it made the entire place feel supernatural. Their collection of Tobias Sergel and Rembrandt works are also impressive. I didn’t have the time to see all floors.nThe souvenir store has also really cool stuff to buy
